(PM113) Senior Traffic Signals Engineer - West Midlands

Our client, a leading, global provider of consulting and engineering services is seeking a Traffic Signals Engineer to help with the expanding workload of their Midlands transport team in Leicester.

Your role:

You will assist colleagues in a range of tasks associated with traffic signal design, assessment and implementation - with opportunities to also become involved in the wider work of the Midlands transport team.

Your tasks will involve analysing and preparing data for the inclusion in traffic signal models, setting up and running traffic models (e.g. LinSig and TRANSYT), producing layout plans using AutoCAD, and preparing outputs for inclusion in client reports and specifications. By working alongside experienced traffic signals engineers, you will expand your existing skills and knowledge in traffic signals, and other traffic management techniques, for a variety of different project types and sizes.

About you:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and versatile individual with some knowledge of the design and assessment of traffic signals. For this role we require candidates to have a HND or degree in a relevant subject - for example mathematics, economics, physics or geography.

Above all, we will be looking for someone with the following qualities:
  • Drive to succeed and a willingness to get involved
  • Experience in a transport consultancy or local authority
  • Knowledge of traffic data collection and analysis
  • Some knowledge of signal junction modelling theory and methods
  • Understanding of UK transport guidance
  • Knowledge of current UK design standards and guidance
  • Experience using AutoCAD
  • Strong team working capabilities
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Ability to produce clear, precise and coherent analysis, reports and drawings
  • Methodical approach to problem solving and strong attention to detail
  • Focus on results and project delivery
  • Full, clean UK driving licence and ideally access to a vehicle

Desirable:
  • Degree in Transport Planning/Engineering
  • Professional membership or working towards professional membership (e.g. MIHE, MCIHT, MTPS or MCILT)
  • Previous work experience in a transport consultancy
  • Experience of junction modelling using programs such as LinSIG and TRANSYT
  • Experience preparing traffic signal controller specifications and implementation
  • Knowledge of current UK design standards and guidance
  • Knowledge and application of Health and Safety and CDM
