Job Title:         Senior, Principal or Associate Director - Transport Planning

Our client is a successful multi-disciplinary consultancy with 13 offices throughout the UK employing approximately 500 staff. At the heart of the business lies a group of outstanding people, working together to deliver solutions to challenging problems in Mining & Minerals, Infrastructure & Energy and Property & Development.

Owing to the success of the Transport Planning division and increased workload we are seeking an experienced Transport Planner at Senior, Principal or Associate Director level to be based from our London or Stafford office.

As a Transport Planner, you will be assisting in providing transport inputs relating to development proposals and will work towards solutions which are acceptable to all stakeholders. You will have the ability to articulate and communicate planning ideas, concepts and proposals is essential.

Your responsibilities will include but not limited to: 
  • Providing planning-stage support for a variety of development schemes
  • Support the preparation of technical assessment documents (Transport Assessments/Travel Plans/EIA Chapters) and reports for planning submissions
  • Support the technical assessments of junction performance using a range of industry-standard traffic modelling software
  • Provide development and masterplan input including pedestrian and cycle design
  • Developing sustainable movement strategies that reflect emerging technologies and changing travel behaviours
  • Oversee the preparation of concept designs for new highway junctions and junction  improvements,
  • Attending project meetings and site visits
  • Arranging data collection and coordinating surveys
Skills / Experience required:
  • Strong written, numerical and verbal communication skills and a client-focussed approach to work
  • Enthusiastic and industrious with a willingness to learn new skills
  • Knowledge of Transport Assessment and Travel Plan methodologies alongside an understanding of the UK planning process and transport policy
  • Some working knowledge of data analysis, interpretation, and presentation, in particular using Excel. In short, someone who enjoys and thrives in finding solutions to complex problems.
  • Strong IT skills across a range of software, the ability to pick up new software quickly and a ‘can-do’ attitude to approaching new tasks
  • Knowledge of Basemap TRACC or other GIS software would be advantageous;
  • Excellent people skills and the ability to work as part of a team, but can also immerse themselves into complex individual tasks, where needed;
  • Transport modelling experience (trip generation and distribution methodologies (TRICS), junction modelling (Junctions 10/LinSig) etc); experience of providing input to Transport Assessments / Statements and Travel Plans;
  • Not essential, but CAD design skills (particularly in relation to junction design) would be advantageous
  • Degree qualified in a relevant subject (preferably in Transport Planning but other related degree disciplines include Civil Engineering, Geography, Planning and Maths – although this is not an exclusive list)
  • Full driving license.
