As a Commercial Advisor, you will be expected to manage and complete projects to a high standard (with the support of management/directors), often as the client’s primary point of contact. You will be expected to provide expert commercial, market, technical/industry (including policy) knowledge and to begin to specialise and contribute to a practice area, whilst managing project resources (such as financial modelling consultants) collaboratively across teams.
Helping to grow and expand the practice area of Commercial Advisory, with particular knowledge of Renewables as an extension to our market leading decentralised/district energy practice, you will demonstrate strong client management skills, providing commercial advice to energy infrastructure transactions, developments, and projects (including public sector, investors, and corporates), and drive business development activities, including supporting adaption of business strategy in response to client demand, and external trends.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Managing several complex client engagements (projects and proposals) or components independently – consulting with colleagues where appropriate.
- Building relationships with new clients and understanding their needs, to generate and communicate proposals that are attractive to such clients
- Managing commercial aspects of an individual engagement to achieve desired levels of quality and profitability
- Providing technical knowledge on projects specifics to junior staff and feeding back any perceived knowledge gaps to senior management to deal with.
- Progressing to specialise and contribute to a practice area - developing and maintaining greater industry knowledge and continuing to demonstrate credible knowledge of economic, political and market trends; passing on pertinent market/client knowledge to senior management.
- Contributing towards creating innovative and repeatable solutions which strengthen business performance whilst maintaining strong client reputation.
- Managing scope and deliver timely and quality deliverables, with regular engagement communications with client.
- Communicating risk and issue early to appropriate colleagues (and client where appropriate).
- Holding/attending reviews on completion of projects to identify lessons learned and enhance future quality of performance.
- Where relevant, working on CPD to maintain professional status/ accreditation.
- Meeting deadlines throughout the AAL Performance Development Cycle for self, including seeking good quality feedback goal setting, providing input into engagement/ project reviews.
Requirements
Ideal Professional Experience…
Typical experience that we look for in our candidates includes:
- Experience of working in a commercial consulting role or commercial/development role within a corporate or investment company.
- Experience in delivery of large-scale infrastructure projects, preferably the low carbon energy sector, including the commercial development and financing of assets.
- Experience of project management, business case development, report writing, due diligence, risk and opportunity analysis.
- Client-facing experience in developing proposals and providing technical knowledge and expertise to maximise the value of the project for stakeholders.
Qualifications required:
- BSc/BA in business administration or relevant field such as economics, law, finance, sciences, engineering.
- BA/MSc/MA desirable but not necessary
- ACA/CIMA/CFA/IACCM/CMI/MEI or equivalent membership (optional)

- Expert user of Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, Outlook & PowerPoint
- The ability to work and communicate as part of a team, and in an effective manner
- Skilled at coping well when under pressure from competing priorities and interruptions
- Able to apply research skills to solve new issues and make improvements
