Role Overview
The successful candidate will play a key leadership role within the Transport Planning team, taking responsibility for the successful technical delivery of projects while also contributing to strategic direction, business growth, and client development. The role requires a balance of technical excellence, commercial awareness, and people leadership, alongside a strong commitment to high-quality client service.
You will work closely with project delivery specialists and multidisciplinary teams, supporting a diverse range of clients across residential, commercial, mixed-use, and infrastructure developments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver development planning and transport planning projects, including Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, Travel Plans, Strategic Transport Studies, and masterplanning support documents
- Provide strategic input and technical oversight across a wide variety of project types, ensuring high-quality outputs and compliance with relevant standards
- Serve as a primary point of contact for key clients, maintaining and developing strong client relationships and ensuring excellent service delivery
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (e.g., highways, infrastructure, environment) to deliver integrated and innovative solutions
- Support the development, mentoring, and coaching of junior and mid-level team members through guidance, knowledge sharing, and technical support
- Contribute to business development activities, including fee proposals, bid preparation, and professional presentations
- Monitor, interpret, and apply transport policy, guidance, and best practice to inform project delivery and client advice
- Support project management responsibilities including budgeting, resource planning, and commercial delivery to ensure profitable outcomes
- Contribute to the wider strategic aims and growth of the business through technical leadership and client engagement
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography, or a related discipline
- Chartered status or actively working towards chartership with a relevant professional body (CIHT, TPS, ICE, or equivalent)
- Minimum of 6 years’ professional experience in transport planning, ideally within consultancy or local authority environments
- Proven track record in transport/development planning and private sector projects
- Strong understanding of transport planning principles, assessment methodologies, and relevant software (e.g., Junctions 10, LinSig, TRICS, TEMPro)
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with experience in client-facing roles and reporting
- Demonstrable experience in project management and supporting the development of junior staff
- Strong commercial awareness, including understanding of fee proposals, budgeting, and resource management
- Collaborative approach to multidisciplinary working and problem-solving
